Community Engagement Group

The Community Engagement Group (CEG) is a working group of the CIB, their main aim is to make sure that groups and individuals have the opportunity to voice their views on the way Thurrock delivers services including Health, Safety, Leisure, the Environment or the local Economy.

To make sure that organisations ask the people of Thurrock for their views in a way that is easy for everyone to understand and to become involved, the CEG wrote “The Principles of Community Engagement”. This was published in 2006 after The Police, Health Service (NHS SWE), The Development Corporation and Thurrock Council had all added their views and agreed to use the principles.

To help those who were using the principles the group produced a toolkit which went into more detail on how to work with the principles. Again all those who would benefit from the toolkit were asked their views and once agreed the Community Engagement Toolkit was launched at the CIB Showcase event in 2009

The CEG also look into future plans that Thurrock Council have and if it is right that the public should be asked their views we try to make sure they are. The group also came up with the “You Ask We Answer” log, which is a way of getting information or questions answered when normal means do not get you to the right person or department.
