In Autum 2009, Thurrock Community Empowerment Network (TCEN) and the Thurrock Disability Network (TDN) in partnership with Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC (TLS) jointly undertook a project to conduct a peer to peer study into the disabled community of Thurrock, focusing on issues around civic participation, barriers to taking part, perceptions on influencing decisions and views on some key local public services.

Following the elections in May, do you think you will have the local and national government you want or the one you deserve? Do you think the voice of local communities will have more influence or less?

NAVCA and the WEA are again bringing Democracy Days to communities around the country as partners in the national Train the Take Part Trainers project. New and up-to-the-minute presentations by experts in national democracy, local government and getting the voice of communities heard will present these lively, one-day events during June and July. 

The events are aimed at voluntary organisations and community groups as well as individuals and staff in public bodies who are interested in the views and expertise that local people can bring. The events are tailored to the local areas in which they are being run.
