Volunteering in Thurrock

Community

1) Special Constabulary - work with the police to improve the quality of your community 2) Political Councillor - join your local council and help make a difference to your community3) Community Forum Member - join your local Community Forum and have your say4) Focus Group Member - help identify service needs and shape policy, e.g. housing, waste, transport etc5) Consultation Opportunity - consult local people in design and delivery of services in Thurrock6) Magistrate - contribute towards upholding the law and have a better understanding of your community. 7)  Tenant and Resident Group Member - Do you care about where you live? Then have your say.8 ) Community Involvement Board Representative - influence priorities for Thurrock and shape policy.9) Neighbourhood Watch – improve relationships between your neighbours and the police10) Victim Support Volunteer  - provide support and information for victims of crime11) Witness Supporter - provide support and information for people going to court12) British Red Cross - List of volunteering opportunities in Thurrock from First Aid to Medical Equipment Loan Volunteer.

12) School-Governor  - help plan for school’s future and set targets for school improvements 13) Parental-Supporter- support parents and families with Thurrock School/Parent Partnership

14) Youth Counsellor – offer support to young people with a variety of issues  15) family-mediator -  Parents Aid provide mediation between family members16) Scout Fellowship Member - provide active support to the scout movement

 Elderly

17) Age Concern Befriender   – offer friendship and support to the elderly  18) WRVS Volunteer - meals on wheels, befriending, Good Neighbour Project etc.

 Health

19) BTUH member - member of Basildon&Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust -have your say 20) BTUH Governor - ensure Members’ views are represented when important decisions are taken. 21) Patient Forum Member – speak up for the public on health matters22) A&E Assisted Discharge Volunteer - take someone home from A&E and offer support at home 23) Red Cross Home Care Support – home care and support24) Mind-befriender - offer support and friendship from those suffering from mental health problems25) Samaritans- Varied roles within the Samaritans not all require direct contact with the public26) Parents 1st – Pregnancy Pals & Birth Buddies training provided.

 Disability

25) Learning Disability Advocate - support clients with learning disabilities 26) Independent Visitor – support disabled people to become involved in their local community.  26a) CSV Supported Volunteering Scheme for People with Learning Disability. Enables people with learning disability to become volunteers in their community.26b) CSV Volunteering Mentors Work on a one to one basis with an individual with learning disablity. 

 Arts

27) Opera and Drama – sing and perform for your local community 28) Arts Council Member- take part in the spirit of community life through arts and culture

29) Sports-Development  - variety of opportunities including coaching, umpiring, transport, catering etc  30) Sports-Coach - find out about coaching a local team

 Animals

31) Horse Riding Helper  – help disabled children to ride horses32) Puppy Parent - provide a temporary home for a puppy and take to regular training classes.

 

 Environment

33) Freecycle Member - help recycle in your area and keep good stuff out of landfills. 34) RSPB Volunteer  - variety of opportunities available – help protect wild birds and the environment. 35) Essex Wildlife Trust Volunteer - variety of opportunities available – help protect the environment. 36) Coalhouse Fort Project Member - help preserve, restore and maintain Coalhouse Fort. 37) Davy Down Volunteer If you have some spare time and energy, you can put this to good use in many different ways, to help your local Community Forest become an even better place to live and work.
